After 3 years of campaigning with our incredible student partners, medical experts, vegan athletes, vegan celebs, dieticians, food vegan food purveyors and a firebrand community supporting us who are ready for radical change, we WON the Healthy Freedom Campaign for a vegan lunch option in every Los Angeles Unified School District school every day of the school year, June 17, 2017. The pilot has evolved into a district-wide push for the vegan lunch choice in every LAUSD school.
Since then Earth Peace has been actively involved in generating more state-wide support for Healthy Freedom in all public California schools statewide as we stayed engaged with LAUSD making sure that the pilot kicked off in the fall of 2017 has continued to grow and expand to more schools while the scaling process to all 1,100 schools continues. In our first semester, 13.5% of students on average chose the vegan meal option at lunch and cafeteria mangers have reported selling out of the vegan options in several high schools on a daily basis. Earth Peace continues to urge and support awareness and education in schools about the importance of a plant based food revolution to mitigate climate change, the juvenile health crisis and exploitation of animals in America.
Join us as we work to expand Healthy Freedom to all California pubic schools through definitive legislation that will require all public schools to have the vegan lunch choice. California has already passed this law for jails and hospitals, shouldn’t our students reap the benefit of a plant based choice every day as well? Of course they should!
